Today, Scholarcy is powering a range of products and services across the scholarly communication ecosystem, from metadata extraction to automated visual abstract creation. Discovery services are harnessing our knowledge extraction technology to enhance user experience, helping their readers screen the literature more efficiently and uncover important findings from research that they otherwise might have missed.

Scholarcy’s headline summaries, highlights, extracted facts, and findings are now displayed on tens of millions of article pages across a range of research platforms with one common goal: to make scholarly literature more discoverable and accessible to a global community of readers. We’re also serving a range of researcher platforms whose mission is to empower users to write, structure, and promote their own work.  Our collaboration with Mind the Graph is enabling authors to produce a scientific poster from any research paper or thesis chapter in just a few clicks. In 2021, our technology has advanced further and is now able to generate human-like synopses from long, complex research papers. This creates a new opportunity for publishers and discovery platforms to promote the latest and most significant discoveries to their readers, while also empowering researchers and universities to promote their own work more widely. And whether the users of our technology are individuals looking to research, write and promote their own work, or content platforms wanting to better serve their readers, our goal goes far beyond summarisation. Our technology distills research into the 'who', 'what', and 'why', shows how it builds on previous work, identifies any limitations and future research directions, and wraps this up into a ready-to-use, plain language synopsis complete with pull quotes from the authors. In one of our latest collaborations, Cactus Communications is using Scholarcy’s knowledge extraction and Smart Synopsis engines within its RDiscovery app to display research highlights from tens of millions of open access articles and deliver subject roundups to over 500,000 users. Our joint mission: to save researchers 70% of the time they spend appraising a study and deciding whether it is worth reading in full.Speaking about this partnership, Siddharth Varshney, Business Head for R Discovery, said:

R Discovery has helped over 500,000 researchers simplify literature reading by reducing their search effort and allowing them to see what’s most relevant for them first. Partnering with Scholarcy helps to further this mission by providing smart article highlights, a feature which will enable researchers to make faster decisions and identify useful research without having to spend hours reading entire articles.

Our technology is also helping customers in the Pharma industry to surface and make connections between millions of papers to drive R&D. In academia, we’re seeing growing demand from universities in China and Southeast Asia to provide the Scholarcy Library app to their students and researchers to help with information literacy and productivity. Scholarcy Library has also been approved by the Department for Education (DfE) for supply to neurodiverse students as part of the Disability Support Allowance. Two new enhancements to Scholarcy Library during 2021 have been hugely popular with users. First, our integration with ‘second brain’ tools such as Notion, Obsidian, and Roam has allowed users to create personal knowledge graphs directly from their research collections and turn PDFs into Markdown, the future-proof format for knowledge sharing. Second, our automated comparative analysis shows how a study compares with previous work, building on existing approaches and confirming or differing from earlier findings. As we head into 2022, we look forward to making research even more discoverable and helping students, researchers, and lay readers alike to understand, apply and make an impact with it.
